PATRIJS

De Patrijs is een standvogel die ernstig bedreigd is (rode lijst). De soort werd lang geleden in zijn verspreidingsgebied ook uitgezet voor de jacht. Het is echter niet de jacht (die sinds 1998 gestopt is), maar de veranderingen in de landbouw die hoofdoorzaak zijn van de achteruitgang die in heel West-Europa nog steeds plaatsvindt. Schaalvergroting, veranderde gewaskeuze, gebruik van bestrijdingsmiddelen en andere factoren beroofden de patrijzen van broedplekken, schuilplaatsen en voedsel. Patrijzen zijn monogaam, leven in paren. Een nest kan wel tot 20 eitjes bevatten. Normaal zijn ze lastig te spotten, maar in de sneeuw vallen ze op door hun prachtige kleuren.

GREY PARTRIDGE

The Partridge is a resident bird that is seriously threatened (red list). Long ago the species was restocked in its habitats for hunting. However, it is not the hunt (which has stopped since 1998), but the changes in agriculture that are the main cause of the decline that is still taking place all over Western Europe. Increased scale, changed crop selection, use of pesticides and other factors deprived the partridges of breeding grounds, shelters and food. Partridges are monogamous, so live in pairs. A litter can contain up to 20 eggs. Usually hard to spot, but in the snow they stand out because of their beautiful colors.
